LeBron James began his new stage with the Philadelphia 76ers with a message that clearly reflects his expectations for the 2026-27 NBA season. The veteran player assured during the franchise’s Media Day that the team will have to get out of its comfort zone if it wants to become a true championship candidate.
“For us to be great, we have to do things that are simply not comfortable. We have to be comfortable being uncomfortable,” James told reporters.
The four-time NBA champion explained that this mentality will be decisive for the 76ers to be able to transform their talent into results during the playoffs.
“If we can do that, then we can be a great team. If not, we’ll be like, ‘We had a great team on paper, a lot of talent, and we lost in the second round.’ I don’t want to do that. I didn’t leave my family to lose in the second round, I know that for sure,” he added.
LeBron James bets on the Philadelphia project
James joined the Philadelphia 76ers over the summer after eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. The agreement contemplates two years and 8 million dollars.
The player recently explained that his friendship with Tyrese Maxey and his intention to help Joel Embiid win the first championship of his career were among the factors that influenced his decision to move to Philadelphia.
During the summer, James shared training with Maxey and Jaylen Brown, another of the new pieces of the 76ers.
The franchise is also considering using James as a point guard, although the player himself did not confirm whether he will have that responsibility during the season.
“The advantage of my game is that I can do everything. Literally, I can do everything,” he said.
James already played the point guard position during the 2019-20 season with the Lakers. In that campaign he averaged 10.2 assists per game, led the NBA in that department and later won the championship in the Orlando bubble.
The Philadelphia 76ers will begin their preseason schedule on October 5 against the New York Knicks, in what will be James’ first step with his new team.
