One person died when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. Several people were injured when the vehicle burst into flames, local police said on Wednesday. The authorities were investigating suspected terrorism, local media reported. Tesla boss and Trump advisor Elon Musk said on his short message platform X that the incident was being investigated by the “entire Tesla senior team”. “We’ve never seen anything like this before.”
According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning at 8:40 a.m. local time. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill said at a news conference that one person was found dead inside the 2024 model Cybertruck. Seven other people were slightly injured. “As you can imagine, following an explosion here on famous Las Vegas Boulevard, we are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our community. We are looking for additional explosive devices,” McMahill said, adding that there is currently no further threat to the public exists. The police are particularly vigilant because of the attack in New Orleans. In the southern US metropolis, a vehicle plowed into a crowd during New Year’s Eve celebrations, killing at least ten people and injuring 35 others, according to authorities.

The incident is reminiscent of an ongoing investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in 2024, in which a Tesla electric semi-truck crashed on a California highway and caught fire. According to automotive experts, fires in electric vehicles develop differently than in cars with internal combustion engines, often last longer and are more difficult to put out.
