Lando Norris broke the drought and achieved his first victory of the season this Sunday by winning the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, held at the Hungaroring. The British McLaren driver crossed the finish line ahead of the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and the Italian Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes).
Although Verstappen started from pole position, he lost the lead on the first lap after being overtaken by his teammate, Oscar Piastri. However, McLaren’s strategy ended up favoring Norris, who regained first position during the second round of pit stops.
The decisive moment came when Piastri, who had entered earlier to change tires, lost valuable time after a collision with Carlos Sainz while lapping the Spanish driver. Shortly after, the Australian suffered a broken gearbox and had to retire with 14 laps remaining.
That retirement opened the door for Kimi Antonelli, championship leader, to climb to third position thanks to a one-stop strategy and the appearance of a virtual safety car.
Lewis Hamilton also tried to take advantage of that neutralization to fight for the podium, but a five-second penalty for accelerating in the pit lane relegated him to fifth position, behind Charles Leclerc.
Frenchman Isack Hadjar finished sixth, while George Russell staged a great comeback. The Briton fell to 21st place after a problem with the anti-stall system at the start, but managed to make up ground to finish seventh.
Aston Martin showed a slight improvement compared to previous races, although it once again fell outside the points zone. Fernando Alonso finished in fourteenth position, his second best result of the year, while Lance Stroll was thirteenth, posting his best performance of the season.
The Latin American pilots also failed to score points. The Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto finished eleventh, the Argentine Franco Colapinto was fifteenth and the Mexican Sergio Pérez abandoned for the third race in the last tests. For his part, Carlos Sainz finished eighteenth after receiving a penalty for the incident with Piastri.
