McLaren came out of the summer break of the Formula 1 with great momentum. Lando Norris He got pole position on Saturday before the Dutch Grand Prix with a spectacular lap of 1:09.673. It is the fourth pole of his career.
“A great day. It’s good to be back and start with a pole,” said Norris. “I’m excited for tomorrow, I’m sure it’s going to be tough.”
After winning his first and only career race in May at Miami East, Norris has finished second four times in eight races.
Max Verstappenwho won the last three races at Zandvoort, will start second, while Oscar Piastri will start on the second row in third place.
“Throughout qualifying we were a bit lacking in pace,” said Verstappen. “I’m happy with second place after yesterday. It’s a good result.
“We’ll try (on Sunday), but when you’re more than three-tenths off the leader in the standings, you have to be realistic.”
The speed of McLaren’s cars is a reality. Since the mid-season break, the orange team has been a headache for Red Bull.
Norris became the first driver to take pole from Verstappen at his home circuit. The McLaren driver did so with a final lap that eclipsed the rest, taking almost four-tenths of a second off his Red Bull rival.
