LONDON.- The British pilot Lando Norriscurrent world champion of Formula 1renewed until 2030 with the team McLarenthe British team announced on Saturday.
This new agreement comes less than a week after Norris’ victory in Netherlandsthe second consecutive after having also won in Hungary. These results have revived hope for the defense of the title.
The renewal includes an option to extend the contract for several years starting in 2030, McLaren said in its announcement this Saturday.
Last season, Norris achieved the first drivers’ championship for the team since the one achieved by the British Lewis Hamilton in 2008.
Norris joined McLaren’s junior program at just 17 years old and made his F1 debut two years later in 2019.
“McLaren is my home and I am delighted to sign a new contract that will keep me with the team at least until 2030,” said Norris, quoted in a statement.
“When I started this journey nine years ago I was clear about the objectives I wanted to achieve: to bring McLaren back to the front and win championships. We have achieved that objective, but we want more, we want to continue winning and we know, as a team, that we are capable of achieving it,” added the 26-year-old driver.
Norris provisionally occupies fourth position in the drivers’ championship, 83 points behind the Italian leader. Kimi Antonelliwith 11 races left in the season.
The Australian Oscar PiastriNorris’ teammate, renewed his contract at the beginning of 2025 until 2028.
McLaren has won the constructors’ championships in 2024 and 2025, ending a drought since 1998, but at the start of this season it has fallen a little behind, after not adapting well to the new mechanical regulations.
The resurgence of Norris in the last two Grands Prix, after the improvements in the car, have once again opened up all the possibilities.

As a gift from the team, Norris will receive an MCL39 car, the model with which he became world champion in 2025.
