LaLiga president could be sanctioned for comparing Real Madrid to Goebbels

BARCELONA.- The president of LaLiga of Spain, Javier Tebasyou could be disciplined for comparing the communication methods of the real Madrid with those of the Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels.

The possible sanctioning scenario became known after the Higher Sports Council (CSD) Spanish will consult the Administrative Court of Sports (TAD) in this regard.

In a statement published on Thursday, the CSD announced that it had transferred the matter to the TAD, after Tebas published the message at the origin of the controversy on October 16.

Tebas criticized the content of Real Madrid TV and wrote that the media’s methods “are reminiscent of propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda of the Nazi Germany“systematic repetition, construction of an enemy and subordination of facts to the story.”

Now it will be the TAD who will have to determine whether these comments constitute a serious offense to the 1990 Sports Law, which considers “notorious and public acts that violate sporting dignity or decorum” as a serious infraction.

For the CSD, “it is essential to preserve the values that make sport a space of respect, coexistence and fair play.”

Real Madrid asked for Tebas’ resignation after the LaLiga boss criticized the content in which the white club questions refereeing actions.

For Tebas, 64, Real Madrid’s official television network often suggests that the judges try to prevent the team from winning.

Explanation of Thebes

After the controversy over his message, Tebas wanted to clarify that he was comparing “propaganda techniques” and not the ideology of Nazi Germany.

On Thursday, the Spanish LaLiga boss insisted his comment “expressly distinguished between propaganda techniques and ideology.”

“Accusing the arbitration system of corruption and presenting our competition as a fraud does not affect sporting dignity and decorum,” he counterattacked, referring to Real Madrid TV. “Doesn’t it harm clubs, referees and millions of fans? Or do those values only deserve a public defense when someone responds to such attacks?”
