In the USA, Kamala Harris has started to catch up in the polls. In Germany, however, she has already won many hearts. Only the supporters of one party would vote in the majority for Donald Trump.
It is a hypothetical question, but an exciting one. Who would Germans vote for if they were allowed to vote in the US presidential election in November? The vote would be clear: 79 percent would vote for Kamala Harris from the Democrats, according to a Forsa survey for Stern. Only 13 percent would choose Donald Trump from the Republicans. 8 percent did not express an opinion. According to Forsa, Harris enjoys similarly high levels of popularity among Germans as previous Democratic candidates who were extremely popular in this country: In June 2008, 71 percent voted for Barack Obama and in May 2016, 82 percent voted for Hillary Clinton.
Kamala Harris is particularly popular among women
Differences are evident between the sexes: 82 percent of women would vote for the current vice president and 8 percent for the former president. 75 percent of men would vote for Harris and 18 percent for Trump.
An analysis of party preferences reveals a very large coalition: the majority of voters who would vote for Harris would be Greens (99 percent), SPD (92 percent), CDU/CSU (89 percent), FDP (85 percent) and Sahra Wagenknecht’s coalition (52 percent). Only AfD supporters are voting against this trend: only 26 percent say they would vote for Harris; 51 percent would vote for Trump.
In the USA, the mood is very different from that here. Trump is still ahead in the national polls, but Harris has been able to significantly reduce the gap in recent days. In the coming days, the Democrats are expected to officially nominate the vice president virtually. The actual party convention is not planned until August 19-22 in Chicago.
