Kamala Harris: How long will the euphoria surrounding her candidacy last?

The enthusiasm for Kamala Harris is real. But so is the fear of the recession. Which is stronger? Our reporter was traveling in Arizona.

Some commentators have already coined a new word for the euphoria surrounding Kamala Harris’ candidacy: Kamalamentum, a mix of Kamala and momentum. Her poll numbers are rising, her chances of winning the election are increasing, and the enthusiasm at the party base is palpable.

But that does not mean that the election campaign has turned around. The first Democrats are already warning against excessive optimism and a lack of connection to reality, especially in the “Sunbelt”, the contested states in the South: Georgia, Nevada, Arizona.

“The game starts again,” says Democrat Armando Alcaraz from southern Arizona, “but the problems here are not gone. There is euphoria now, but that will subside and then people will focus on the big issues again.”
