In the US election year, the Julian Assange case is not one of Joe Biden's priorities. Why he would still do well to drop the request for his extradition now.

The maximum security prison HMP Belmarsh in south-east London is a nightmare of gray and yellow brick. Even from the bridge at Plumstead train station you can see the huge prison city, the high steel security fence that surrounds it stretches for miles. Julian Assange is in this prison – along with 686 other inmates – and has been for almost five years now. According to British law, the 52-year-old is innocent: he had already served his 50-week prison sentence for violating his bail conditions more than four years ago.
