The NBA announced on Friday that it fined Joel Embiid with $75,000 for “making obscene gestures on the court” during the first half of the 76ers’ 118-114 Christmas Day victory over the Boston Celtics.
Embiid appeared to be penalized for his reaction after drilling a 3-pointer just before halftime.
Embiid scored 27 points, nine rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes to help the 76ers pull off the upset. It was just Embiid’s ninth appearance of the season as he continues to battle several injuries.
Embiid puts up respectable numbers when available, averaging 21.3 points, seven boards, 3.9 assists and 0.9 blocks.
The 76ers have won seven of their last 10 games to move up to 12th place in the East.
