Italy and USA Meloni visits Trump in Mar-a-Lago

Italy’s Prime Minister is said to have good contacts with the Trump camp. A little more than two weeks before the change in the White House, she is in Florida for a meeting.

Italy’s right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is on her way to visit future US President Donald Trump. Various Italian media reported this, citing those close to the head of government.

Accordingly, Meloni is expected on Saturday evening (7:30 p.m. local time, 1:30 a.m. CET Sunday) in the US state of Florida, where Trump has spent most of his time at his Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach since his election victory in November. There was initially no official confirmation of the planned meeting.

The leader of the right-wing party Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy) is considered the European head of government who has the best relations with the Trump camp. Meloni also maintains a friendly relationship with US billionaire Elon Musk, who advises the Republican. Trump will move back into the White House on January 20th.

The outgoing incumbent Joe Biden, in turn, is expected to visit Rome next week. The program includes meetings with Pope Francis and also with Meloni. She has led a coalition of three right-wing parties in Rome for two years. Until the turn of the year, she also chaired the group of seven large democratic industrial nations (G7).
