WASHINGTON — The Iranian nuclear power plant in Bushehr was the target this Friday of a third attack by the United States and Israel, despite the condemnations of these bombings by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Russia, an ally of the theocratic regime.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the projectile caused neither victims nor material or technical damage to the different parts of the nuclear power plant, according to the official Iranian Fars agency.
The Iranian regime denounced that “attacking peaceful nuclear facilities constitutes a clear violation of international norms” and that these attacks could “seriously threaten the security of the region.”
For its part, the IAEA reported on its X account that it was informed by Iran of a new attack in Bushehr, the third incident of this type in ten days.
The agency indicated that, according to Iran, no damage to the operating reactor or radiation leaks has been reported, and that the plant is in normal condition.
IAEA calls for “moderation”
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi again expressed his deep concern about military activity in the vicinity of the nuclear power plant and warned of “a serious radiological incident if the reactor were damaged.”
Grossi reiterated his call for maximum military restraint to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident.
The Bushehr plant, located in southern Iran and built by Russian engineers, was the target of a first attack last week, and a second last Tuesday.
After this second attack, Russia expressed its “deep indignation” and denounced that “the aggressors deliberately seek to provoke a major nuclear catastrophe in the region to hide and justify their criminal actions.”
The Russian atomic corporation Rosatom reported that it had evacuated 163 workers from the Bushehr plant last Wednesday.
In addition to Bushehr, Israel and the United States attacked other nuclear facilities of the Islamic Republic in central Iran this Friday, without any deaths or radioactive leaks.
The Jondab heavy water processing complex and the Ardakan yellowcake (uranium concentrate) production complex in Yazd province were bombed.
This Ardakan plant is a key facility where uranium ore is transformed into uranium concentrate, an intermediate step before nuclear enrichment.
