In an effort to find a peace solution between Israel and Lebanon, representatives of the two countries met again in Washington. The third round of talks since the ceasefire was announced almost a month ago is taking place at the US State Department, diplomats said on Thursday. At the last meeting on April 23, President Donald Trump personally received the negotiators at the White House.

The new meeting is about a possible extension of the ceasefire, which expires on Sunday. It came into force on April 17th and has already been extended once.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia in Lebanon continued their attacks on each other. Hezbollah rejects the talks in Washington, which are taking place without its participation.

Israel and Lebanon do not officially have diplomatic relations and have been formally at war since 1948. The Iran war had exacerbated tensions.
