Miami.- The south of Florida faces an intensification of immigration raids led by the Customs Immigration and Control Service (ICE).
In recent days, the operations carried out in the Miami-Dade and Broward counties have caused concern and a climate of tension between the migrant communities in the region. However, the authorities have ensured that these are people with judicial records.
Recent arrests and objectives of operations
Among the outstanding cases, the authorities confirmed the arrest of a Nicaraguan citizen accused of aggravated aggression with a mortal weapon, as well as that of a Jamaican citizen facing charges related to the possession of oxycodone.
According to ICE, these operations have as its main objective the capture of people with criminal records or representing a threat to public security.
However, organizations and community leaders have denounced that in some cases immigrants without criminal history, which has increased fear in these communities.
The National Investigation Security Office (HSI Miami) published on the social network X images of several immigrants arrested during operations.
These photographs illustrate the scope of the raids and have generated a broad debate on social networks, where both support comments and criticisms of the measures adopted abound.
These actions are part of a broader federal strategy that seeks to harden migratory policies. After the recent assumption of President Donald Trump, executive orders were issued to reinforce border security and accelerate deportation processes, marking an important turn regarding the policies of the previous administration.
Official statements
The Chief of the Miami Police, Manuel Morales, tried to calm the community by stating that local officers are not authorized to request immigration documentation during routine inspections.
“In our city of Miami, people should not fear for their immigration status. The police do not review that,” Morales said.
However, he also clarified that, in case ICE issues an arrest warrant against a person, the Local Police will respond and notify the immigration authorities.
