Hope grows! Tagovailoa expected to return to Dolphins this season

MIAMI GARDENS.- The quarterback of the Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoareturn to play in 2024 after being diagnosed with his third concussion in two years earlier this season.

Head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Tagovailoa had “positive” meetings with neurologists during the Dolphins’ bye week, although he remains in concussion protocol and on injured reserve.

Tagovailoa is not eligible to return until Miami’s game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8 and McDaniel said the quarterback will continue to consult with experts to determine when it will be safe for him to play.

The talented player was injured in a Week 2 game against Buffalo when he collided with Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin.

Tagovailoa, on whom much of the Dolphins’ hopes of competing this year rested, has a history of head injuries since entering the NFL, as he was diagnosed with two in 2022 and suffered another terrifying blow to the head that season, leading to changes to the NFL’s concussion rules.

Impact of your absence

The Dolphins have struggled on offense so far this season, as three different quarterbacks have taken snaps in place of Tagovailoa. Heading into this week’s matchup in Indianapolis, they have one of the worst scoring offenses in the NFL at 12 points per game.

Miami will stick with Tyler “Snoop” Huntley until Tagovailoa returns. Huntley is 1-1 in two starts for the team this season. McDaniel said the former Ravens quarterback is growing in his understanding of the offense.
