Harris clearly differentiates himself from US President Biden in a Fox News interview

The Democratic US presidential candidate Kamala Harris gave a combative interview to the right-wing broadcaster Fox News and clearly differentiated herself from incumbent Joe Biden. “My presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Biden’s presidency,” the vice president said in the interview broadcast on Wednesday evening. At the same time, she sharply attacked her rival Donald Trump for his statement that there was an “enemy within” in the USA that had to be fought with the military if necessary.

“I represent a new generation of leaders,” Harris said. Like any new political leader, she will “bring in her experience, her professional experience and new ideas,” the 59-year-old replied when asked why she had said little in previous statements about what she would do differently than Biden.

Harris has served as vice president since 2021 and took over the Democratic Party’s nomination in August after the 81-year-old Biden withdrew for reasons of age. The Trump camp repeatedly accuses her of not using her three and a half years in office to do things differently – so it is not credible that she will do this as president.

Harris accused Trump of being “unstable” and unfit for office. He talks about “an enemy within” and wants to use the military against people who don’t agree with him. Trump has a tendency to “demean, belittle and belittle the American people,” Harris said. “The President of the United States should be able to deal with criticism without threatening to put the author in prison.”

Trump also recently said on Fox News that there are “sick people, radical left-wing lunatics” in the USA. The state has to deal with these, and this can be easily handled, “if necessary by the National Guard or, if really necessary, by the military.”

It was Harris’ first interview on Fox News. Earlier, during a campaign appearance before Republicans in Pennsylvania, she quoted US General Mark Milley, who formerly served in the Trump administration, as saying that Trump was “a fascist from head to toe.”

Baier put Harris under some pressure with his questions. Asked about the record number of illegal migrants crossing the Mexican border under the Biden administration, Harris responded that the Biden-Harris administration had proposed a bill to increase border security, but that “Donald Trump told (Republicans) to do it “prevent this”.

After being asked when she first noticed President Biden’s declining mental abilities, Harris turned the conversation back to Trump: “Joe Biden is not on the ballot. And Trump is.”

Fox News played a key role in the political rise of the real estate billionaire, who served as president from 2017 to 2021. The Republican now criticized the station because of the interview with Harris.

Trump later congratulated moderator Bret Baier on his online service Truth Social for a “tough but very fair interview that clearly showed how completely incompetent Kamala is.”

The presidential election on November 5th is expected to be an extremely close race. In many crucial states, Harris and Trump are practically tied in the polls.
