The Spanish coach Pep Guardiola has no intention of leaving Manchester City and declared this Saturday that he is determined to put an end to the unprecedented crisis of the English club.
In the press conference prior to the visit to Leicester, on matchday 19 of the championship, Guardiola said that he wants to “reverse the dynamic.”
City have only won one of their last 13 games, a figure as worrying as the nine defeats suffered in that period.
Falling to 7th position in the Premier League, they are already 14 points behind the leader Liverpool, while in the Champions League they occupy 22nd position with two games left until the final of the group stage, in which only the first 24 teams will start alive.
“I’m going to try, I’m going to continue. Sometimes we think that a bad streak will end faster or that it will be easier to put it behind us, but sometimes it takes longer. I won’t give up. I want to be here and, in our situation, we have to do it,” —Guardiola said.
The aura of the Catalan coach, who has lifted the English title six times in the last seven seasons, has been damaged by his team’s poor performance. And although he has just signed his renewal contract until 2027, questions have been appearing about his future at the Etihad Stadium.
“The biggest challenge will be the return, but we have done it before,” Guardiola insisted.
The coach refuses to look for excuses on the injured list (the Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Ederson…) or the lack of scoring success of the Norwegian Erling Haaland, who missed a penalty against Everton and who has only scored a goal in the last seven games.
“It’s not part of my upbringing to start complaining and looking for blame. These things happen, it’s life, it’s football, so let’s try it again,” he declared.
“Every three days there have been games and victories, victories for several months and several years. Now we have to do the same,” he added.
