German legend reaches agreement to join MLS

LOS ANGELES.- Marco Reus is heading to Major League Soccer (MLS) after reaching an agreement on Thursday to sign with the THE Galaxy until the end of the 2026 season.

The 35-year-old midfielder left Borussia Dortmund in May after 12 years with his home club. He was twice named Bundesliga Player of the Year in 2012 and 2019.

Reus has 15 goals and 14 assists in 48 appearances for Germany and had an assist and a goal in Germany’s 2-1 win Germany in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

With Dortmund he had 170 goals and 131 assists in 429 games.

“Marco Reus is a world-class player who has excelled at the highest level of the game,” said Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz. “For Marco, a two-time Bundesliga Player of the Year, to join the Galaxy after playing his entire career in Germany is a testament to the project we continue to build as a club.”

“We are excited about the contributions Marco will make to the LA Galaxy as we enter the final stretch of the 2024 MLS season and beyond.”

LA acquired Reus’ rights from Charlotte FC for $400,000. He had held talks with Charlotte before choosing the Galaxy.

Conte is back in Italy

Antonio Conte returns to Serie A with the mission of helping Napoli recover from the worst title defense in the history of the Italian league.

Napoli won the title in 2023, but had a tough time last season and finished a terrible 10th.

Instead it was one of Conte’s former teams, Inter Milan, that stormed to the championship, finishing 19 points clear of nearest rivals AC Milan.

Conte is the fourth Napoli coach since Luciano Spalletti left after leading the southern club to its first title in more than 30 years. Rudi Garcia, Walter Mazzarri and Francesco Calzona were unable to cope with the crisis.
