“Kammy” instead of “Nanny”: Actress Fran Drescher supports Kamala Harris in the election campaign in a funny video – including new lyrics from the cult series.
“She’s got brains, she’s got balls and Tim Walz. She’ll soon be president Harris!”
(She’s got brains, she’s got guts and Tim Walz. Soon she’ll be President Harris!)
Who would have thought that Fran Drescher would voluntarily allow herself to be robbed of her role as “The Nanny”? In a humorous video that the actress shared on Instagram, she now expresses her support for Democrat Kamala Harris in the US election campaign against Donald Trump.
“I’m Fran Drescher and I approve this message,” the video begins with Drescher winking at the camera: “I’m Fran Drescher, and I approve this message.” Then the well-known catchy theme tune from the successful series “The Nanny” starts – with rewritten lyrics. Instead of introducing the nanny Fran Fine, the parody is about the story of “Kammy” – Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a cartoon look, you can see Kamala Harris in a suit in front of the White House next to a coconut tree, the American flag above her, and a waving miniature version of her running mate Tim Walz in the window on the left.
Watch out, Donald Trump!
“Who would have thought that a girl who had ‘gone black’ would find a way to bring back hope and joy? (…) Watch out, Donald Trump!” the text continues. A clear jibe at Donald Trump and his false statement that Kamala Harris would suddenly call herself black just for the election campaign.
The video has now collected more than 641,000 views and 47,000 likes. “I can’t wait to see what will change with a woman at the head of the free world!” Drescher comments on her post.
Fran Drescher, the self-proclaimed anti-capitalist
This is not the first time that the US actress has clearly positioned herself for the Democrats. As early as 2008, she supported Hillary Clinton’s nomination as presidential candidate, and four years later she supported former President Barack Obama. Lastly, of course, also the one for Joe Biden.
The 66-year-old has been politically active for decades and is celebrated online as an “anti-capitalist icon.” As acting president of the actors’ union Sag-Aftra, she is currently primarily campaigning for better working conditions in the industry. In the past, she has been critical of the two-party system in the USA and the vaccine regulations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Even in her role as Fran Fine in “The Nanny,” Drescher let her political views shine through. In one episode of the series, she refused to enter a hotel where the employees were on strike. The successful US sitcom was broadcast in over 100 countries from 1993 to 1999 and made Fran Drescher a superstar at the time. A role that she now seems happy to share with the presidential candidate. Or as Harris is now singing about in the video:
“The lady who laughs is now the one who saves democracy.”
Incidentally, the video is not from Drescher himself, but from the Tony-nominated sisters and Broadway legends Ann Hampton Callaway and Liz Callaway. They already sang the sitcom’s iconic original theme song.
Ann Hampton Callaway first shared the video on Facebook and wrote: “Writing the new lyrics to my theme song for the beloved TV series ‘The Nanny’ was an act of duty, love and hope. (…)”
Drescher’s repost definitely helped the video become even more popular. Hampton Callaway has already publicly thanked the actress for helping the parody reach “hundreds of thousands of fans and now approaching a million by the minute – wow!”
