LONDON.- The government of United Kingdom announced on Sunday that he will retire the former prince Andrew his honorary title of vice admiral, the last military rank he had left.
Andrés had already been stripped in 2022 by his mother, the deceased Queen Elizabeth IIof his honorary military titles after being sued by Virginia Giuffre, the main accuser of the American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
On Thursday, the king Charles III He withdrew all his remaining royal titles and honors from his brother, amid outrage in the United Kingdom over Andrés’ links to Epstein.
“Andrés has renounced the honorary positions he held in the armed forces (…) Guided again by the king, we are now working to eliminate that last remaining title of vice-admiral that he holds,” declared Defense Minister John Healey to the BBC.
Healey assured that the government would also be guided by the king’s opinion on whether Andrew should lose his military medals.
The former prince has always denied sexually abusing Giuffre, who claimed in her posthumous memoirs published in October that she was forced to have sexual relations with him on three occasions, two of them when she was just 17 years old.
For his part, the American president said on Sunday that he felt “sorry” for the British royal family, after being consulted about the situation of former Prince Andrew.
“It’s a terrible thing what happened to the royal family,” Trump said when responding to an AFP reporter aboard Air Force One about the matter.
“It’s been a tragic situation, and it’s very bad. I mean, I feel sorry for the family.”
