The new pass rusher of the Philadelphia Eagles, Jaelan Phillipsexpressed his enthusiasm after being transferred from the Miami Dolphins. The defender assured that playing with the current champions is “the best thing that has happened to him in his life,” while the team seeks to reinforce its pressure on the quarterback.
Newly acquired edge rusher Jaelan Phillips couldn’t be happier about his change of team. After being traded by the Miami Dolphins to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2026 Draft, the player described the move as a blessing.
“I thought I was excited the first day, but talk to me now. This is literally the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life,” Phillips said after his first practice with the team, according to ESPN. “The kids are incredible, everyone has welcomed me very well. I love the atmosphere, the vibe. The city of philadelphia He gave me a warm welcome. I got like 20 times more likes on Instagram than I ever had before thanks to Philly fans!”
Phillips, chosen in the first round of the 2021 Draft, spent his entire career in Miami before the transfer. Although he suffered injuries that ended his 2023 and 2024 seasons, he has shown a remarkable recovery this year, racking up 25 tackles, seven quarterback hits and three sacks in nine games. According to TruMedia, his 17 third-down pressures rank fourth among all NFL edge rushers.
The Eagles (6-2) hope Phillips will bolster a pass rush that currently ranks 24th in sacks per game.
“I’m super excited about his arrival. He’s a player with a lot of tools, and the best thing is that he keeps them sharp,” offensive lineman Jordan Mailata told NBC Sports. “He gave Lane (Johnson) problems and he gave me problems too. I’m very happy that he’s on our side now.”
Philadelphia’s next game will be against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night, and the defensive line will have new faces. Brandon Graham, who came out of retirement after 15 seasons with the team, will make his debut this season, while Nolan Smith will return after overcoming a triceps injury.
With a renewed roster and a motivated Phillips, the defending champions seek to establish themselves as the best team in the National Conference (NFC).
