FIFA increases financial prizes for the 2026 World Cup and will distribute 871 million dollars

FIFA announced a significant increase in the financial amounts it will distribute during the 2026 World Cup, raising the total figure to 871 million dollars.

The amount far exceeds the $727 million initially announced in December and responds to concerns expressed by several national federations about the increase in operating costs to participate in the tournament that will be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

More support for qualified teams

Among the most notable changes, FIFA increased aid for preparation costs from $1.5 million to $2.5 million for each of the 48 participating teams.

In addition, the fixed payment for qualifying for the World Cup rose from 9 million to 10 million dollars per team. New contributions were also added to cover delegation expenses and greater ticket allocations for the federations.

Prizes for the best of the tournament

The economic distribution maintains historical figures for the teams that go further in the competition:

Champion: 50 million dollars

Runner-up: $33 million

Third place: $29 million

Fourth place: 27 million dollars

The prize already represented a 50% increase compared to the money awarded at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Infantino celebrates financial strength

Gianni Infantino assured that the organization is going through the strongest financial moment in its history, which allows greater resources to be reinvested in the global development of football.

FIFA estimates revenues close to $13 billion during the current four-year World Cup cycle, which will culminate in the biggest World Cup of all time.
