FIFA asks for explanations to the CBF for alleged irregularity in hiring of Ancelotti

Rio de Janeiro.- The FIFA asked for explanations to the Brazilian Soccer Confederation (CBF) for having resorted to an intermediary without a license for the hiring of Italian Carlo Ancelotti As the new Seleção coach, according to a filtered letter to the press.

The CBF, meanwhile, assured the AFP on Thursday night that it evaluates “the situation internally.”

Ancelotti, 65, assumed as a coach of the Canarinha last Monday, after signing an agreement with the CBF to guide the team to the North American World Cup next year.

According to a letter from the FIFA released by the press and dated May 28, the governing body of world football asks the CBF information about Diego Fernandes, an “intermediary without a license” that would have participated in the negotiations with the then coach of Real Madrid.

FIFA considers that this “could constitute a violation” of the Football Agents Regulation.

The document requires the CBF to provide details about the role of Fernandes, copies of payments made, communications related to hiring and any agreement signed with the intermediary.

Consulted by the AFP, the CBF said that “the terms that involved the negotiation have confidentiality clauses and were prepared by the former management” of former president Ednaldo Rodrigues, dismissed by a judicial decision on May 15.

“The current management evaluates the situation internally, through its governance area,” he added in a note.

Fernandes’ office stated, on the other hand, that the contract “rigorously respects all regulations of the CBF and FIFA.”

The Brazilian businessman acted as “consultant” due to the “short term” of the negotiation, incompatible with the registration process as a FIFA agent, the office said in a note.

He added that Fernandes will only receive “the fair value of the intermediation” after obtaining the corresponding license.

According to Brazilian media, Fernandes will pocket 1.2 million euros of commission for negotiation.

The dream firm

The arrival of Ancelotti was longed for for more than two years by the CBF, which aspires to end a streak of disappointing results of the greenarela.

The Italian will premiere on June 5 at home against Ecuador and five days later Brazil He will receive Paraguay, in matches for the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
