MIAMI.- The FIFA will announce on Saturday the stadiums that will serve as headquarters for the Club World Cup next year in the United States, soccer’s governing body reported Friday.
The new expanded 32-club tournament, featuring top teams from around the world, will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025.
Gianni Infantinopresident of FIFA, will make the announcement in Central Park during the Global Citizen Festival, a musical event aimed at defeating poverty.
Real Madrid, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are among the 12 European teams that have qualified for the tournament, while River Plate and Boca Juniors of Argentina and Flamengo of Brazil are among the six South American teams that will attend the event.
FIFA has yet to announce any broadcast partner for the tournament, which has faced opposition from global players’ union FIFPro.
FIFpro and the European Leagues body filed a joint complaint against FIFA with the European Commission over the introduction of the tournament into the international match calendar.
Opponents of the new championship have said it adds more congestion to an already crowded schedule and increases the workload on players.
One of two great dates
The tournament will take place during the same window as the Concacaf Gold Cup regional national team competition, which will be contested primarily on the West Coast.
Club World Cup matches are expected to be held mostly at venues on the East Coast, although the American club Seattle Sounders could host a match at their home venue.
The United States will also co-host the 2026 National Team World Cup along with Mexico and Canada.
