FIA reduces the rude language sanctions of the pilots

PARIS.- The International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced on Wednesday a new modification of its International Sports Code (CSI) for which it reduces the fines inflicted to the pilots for using a rude language.

The base fine is reduced by half and its amount goes from 10,000 euros ($ 11,180) to 5,000.

In addition, the commissioners will be able to leave the economic sanction suspended in certain cases, if it were an early infraction.

The text also differentiates the non -spontaneous media – as a press conferences, interviews, official ceremonies – from the “uncontrolled ‘(radio conversations, hot statements, interviews at the end of special sections in World Cups of WRC Rallies).

The FIA ​​thus fulfills a claim of the pilots by distinguishing between the statements under the tension of the competition and the rest.

The president of the instance, Emiratí Mohammed Ben Sulayem, a candidate for his own succession in the elections provided in December, had announced a hardening of the sanctions at the end of 2024.

The Rallies pilots denounced at the end of February some “exorbitant fines” after the French pilot Adrien Fourmaux was sanctioned with 10,000 euros during the Sweden rally for having lamented in a manner considered rude for a pilot error.

In February, the F1 pilot, Carlos Sainz (Williams), questioned the hard line of the FIA ​​about it.

The Spanish said it was reasonable that the pilots avoid saying thick words when speaking in a public environment, as a press conference, but that the situation is different on track.

“I think you can’t be too hard with this kind of thing, because you can’t understand pressure, adrenaline and how we feel in the car when opening the radio.”
