Ferrari supports Vasseur and rules out changes in the team’s management

Ferrari responded to speculation about the future of Frédéric Vasseur and confirmed that the Frenchman will continue to lead the team. The decision was communicated this Tuesday by Maria Conti, the team’s communications director, who assured that president John Elkann and executive director Benedetto Vigna maintain their confidence in the person responsible for the Formula 1 structure.

“Ferrari’s position is clear. It is not going to change. Ferrari has made its decision. There is confidence in Fred and his team. Nothing has changed,” said Conti during an urgently called appearance before the media.

The statement came after several days of speculation about Vasseur’s continuity, fueled especially by the statements of former Red Bull boss Christian Horner, who acknowledged his interest in returning to Formula 1 and did not rule out the possibility of working for Ferrari.

Vasseur, in fact, had admitted after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix that the situation was affecting the atmosphere within the team. “We are not working with perfect serenity,” said the Frenchman, who regretted that a significant part of the questions he currently receives are related to his future.

“We are fighting for second place in the championship and, at the end of the day, we talk about this a lot. Even for the guys in the garage, arguing about this is not the best conversation we can have,” he added.

Ferrari faces the 2026 season with a sporting situation far from initial expectations. The Italian team began the year with the hope that its preparation for the important regulatory change in 2026 would allow it to fight for the championships, but the performance of its power unit has fallen below that of Mercedes and Red Bull.

After 15 of the 23 scheduled races, Ferrari occupies second place in the Constructors’ World Championship, although it is 160 points behind Mercedes. At the same time, it keeps McLaren behind, 72 units behind.

Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton also publicly supported Vasseur’s work. After the race in Baku, the seven-time world champion responded affirmatively when asked if he remained confident that Ferrari was moving in the right direction under the Frenchman’s leadership.

Vasseur arrived at Ferrari at the beginning of 2023, after the departure of Mattia Binotto. The Frenchman renewed his contract in July 2025 for several seasons, although Ferrari never specified the exact duration of the new agreement.

With official confirmation from the team, Ferrari intends to close speculation about a possible replacement for now. Vasseur will continue to lead the team as Ferrari attempts to close the gap on Mercedes and turn its 2026 project into a real title bid.
