ATLANTA.- The Colombian singer Feid, one of the representatives of the music most notable Latin American urban cities today, will animate on Thursday the opening of the Copa América-2024, prior to the opening match between the current champion Argentina and the Nobel Prize winner Canada.
The oldest national team tournament, whose final will be played on July 14, will begin rolling at the Mercedes-Benz stadium in atlanta (Georgia) to the reggaeton rhythm of the nine-time Latin Grammy nominated artist.
“Our purpose is to make this CONMEBOL Copa América an unforgettable, vibrant tournament with which all fans feel the greatness of our football and we are sure that with this inaugural show we are getting closer to that goal,” declared Conmebol president Alejandro Dominguez.
The choice of Feid, a musician and composer who presents an urban sound that mixes other rhythms such as hip-hop, reggae and afrobeat with reggaeton, occurred within the framework of Conmebol’s objective of selecting artists who “represent passion and delivery of the South Americans,” Domínguez said in the statement distributed by Conmebol.
The tournament
In its 48th edition, Lionel Messi’s Argentina will defend the title obtained at the Maracaná against Brazil in 2021, a conquest that began the albiceleste’s journey towards the crown in Qatar-2022.
In the opening of the Cup, on Thursday in Atlanta, Messi and company will face debutant Canada in Group A completed by Chile and Peru.
The United States will warm up for the World Cup that it will co-organize with Mexico and Canada in 2026, with a Copa América 2024 that will pit the ten South American teams plus Panama, Jamaica, Mexico, Canada and Costa Rica.
