PARIS.- The famous engineer of the Formula 1, Adrian Neweywill have more power within the team Aston Martin starting next season and will become the “Main Team”, the British team announced this Wednesday.
“Adrian Newey will assume the title of Team Principal from 2026 and will lead the technical team, including the car’s on-track activities,” Aston Martin said in a statement.
The current Team Principal, Andrew Cowellwill become head of strategy, primarily in charge of relations with Slingwhich will be the British team’s engine supplier next season, succeeding mercedes.
Aston Martin’s results this season have been disappointing, but the current car was not designed by Newey, who started working late for the team they race for. Fernando Alonso and Lance Strollwho will continue to be the two drivers next year.
At 66 years old, considered one of the best engineers in the history of Formula 1, he has been working since his arrival at Aston Martin on next year’s car, which must comply with the new technical regulations.
Aston Martin is only eighth in the constructors’ standings with two races left in the season and Alonso and Stroll are 13th and 16th, respectively, in the drivers’ standings.
Newey left Red Bull in 2024 after more than two decades, in which he designed the cars that won twelve world constructors’ championships with drivers as famous as Alain Prost, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappenamong others.
Ukrainian sumo wrestler gets record promotion
Sumo wrestler Danylo Yavhusishyn made history on Wednesday by becoming the first Ukrainian to reach the second-highest level of the ancient Japanese sport, and he did it in record time.
The 21-year-old, who fled the war in Ukraine 3 years ago, is the fighter to rise through the ranks the fastest since the introduction of the current schedule of six annual tournaments in 1958, rising from the lowest status to the rank of ozeki.
Yavhusishyn had already become the first Ukrainian to win a competition, after winning on Sunday during the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament.
