Exit Poll: Edmundo González would win with 65% of the votes

CARACAS.- An exit poll conducted by Edison Research during the election day in Venezuela declares the opposition candidate the winner Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia of the Unitary Platform, with 65% of the total votes, against the 31% obtained by the dictator Nicolas Maduro.

Data provided by the pollster reveal that the unitarian standard-bearer managed to win with broad support in all demographic groups with the exception of one.

Regarding the possible defeat of Nicolás Maduro, Edison Research states that “not only is he losing by a wide margin among the main opposition groups, such as younger and urban voters, but he is also down by double digits among what had been the PSUV’s strong electorate: voters over 60 years old and rural voters.”

Election day in Venezuela ends with the closing of polling stations, to make way for the counting of votes and their subsequent totalisation.
