EU special summit for Ukraine for March 6th

The European Union holds a special summit for the Ukraine War on March 6. Europe experiences “a crucial moment for Ukraine and for European security,” said EU Council President Antonio Costa on Sunday at the announcement of the meeting.

His conversations with European states of the state had shown agreement in the goals of “strengthening European defense and making a decisive contribution to peace on our continent and long -term certainty for Ukraine,” said Costa in online service X.

In the EU, it is very concerned about the rapprochement course by US President Donald Trump to the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin. Trump had made a U-turn in the Ukraine policy of the United States in the past few weeks. After a long phone call to Kremlin boss Putin, he sent his Foreign Minister Marco Rubio to direct talks with Russian government officials about Ukraine, without representatives of Ukraine or the EU. Trump described the Ukrainian president as “dictator” and blamed him for the beginning of the Ukraine war.

The Europeans are also under pressure by Trump, significantly more to do for their own defense. Should the United States deduct part of its troops from Europe, the Europeans would have to fill the gap. So far, 100,000 US soldiers have been stationed in Europe.

The US atomic defense screen could also be considered at some point. Experts therefore warn for discussion about an extended nuclear deterrent from Europe beyond the nuclear states of France and Great Britain.
