The rich entrepreneur Musk, who is a close follower of the future US President Donald Trump, has been campaigning heavily for the AfD for several weeks. On Thursday evening he broadcast a 75-minute conversation with AfD chancellor candidate Alice Weidel on X.
The delegates to the AfD federal party conference adopted a motion on Saturday evening that sets better relations between Germany and the USA and in particular the future Trump administration as the party’s goal. The AfD MEP Marc Jongen described the motion he submitted in Riesa as “a thank you to Elon Musk”.
The application states, among other things, that the AfD sees the new US government as “a strong partner in our commitment to freedom of expression and against Internet censorship.” The motion was approved by a large majority at the party conference. A delegate said in the debate that Musk’s support would give the AfD two to three percentage points in the German election.
