Donald Trump victim of hackers? Campaign team blames Iran

Donald Trump’s campaign team accuses Iran of data theft. According to spokesman Steven Cheung, “foreign sources” stole confidential files on Vice President JD Vance.

The campaign team of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says it has been the victim of a hacker attack. In a statement released on Saturday, Trump’s spokesman Steven Cheung blamed “foreign sources” for the leak of internal communications and a file on Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance. The spokesman accused Iran of being behind it.

The political magazine “Politico” had previously reported on the hacker attack. According to the report, the magazine received emails with campaign documents from an unknown source who refused to reveal their identity. The documents also included investigations into the investigation of Vance. These documents were “illegally obtained from foreign sources hostile to the United States,” Cheung explained. The intention behind this was to disrupt the presidential election in November and “create chaos in our democratic process.”

There were also hacker attacks during the 2016 presidential election campaign. At the time, they affected email accounts belonging to the Democratic Party. The whistleblower platform Wikileaks had published several internal emails from the US Democrats that apparently came from a hacker attack. This was a major burden for the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. It is not known where Wikileaks got the documents from. There is suspicion that they may have come from Russian sources.

In 2016, Trump defeated Clinton. On November 5, he will face Kamala Harris, who is running against Trump as the Democratic presidential candidate after incumbent Joe Biden’s retirement. Harris is currently touring the most contested US states with her vice presidential candidate Tim Walz. On Friday, both performed in Arizona, and on Saturday (local time) they are scheduled to appear at a campaign event in Las Vegas, Nevada.
