The man was wearing a dark prison gown and his feet and hands were shackled when he first appeared in court on Monday morning (local time), CNN reported. The prosecution wants the defendant to remain in custody while authorities continue to investigate the incident. A detention hearing is scheduled for September 23, and the reading of the charges is scheduled for September 30.

On Sunday afternoon, the Secret Service said it had discovered the armed suspect a few hundred meters from Republican presidential candidate Trump in the bushes at the fence around his golf course. Officers shot at him. The suspect reportedly fled in a car and was arrested a short time later on a highway near the crime scene. The man’s motive is still unclear.

Trump was assassinated two months ago at a campaign event. He was only slightly injured.
