Donald Trump and the fictitious emergency landing in a helicopter

At a press conference, Donald Trump reported on an emergency situation on a helicopter flight. Others who were on board remember the flight very differently.

US presidential candidate Donald Trump narrowly survived the assassination attempt at his campaign rally in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. On Thursday, at a press conference in Mar-a-Lago, he reported on another situation in which his life was said to have been in danger: during a helicopter flight with Willie Brown, the former Californian politician and ex-boyfriend of his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris. This is reported by “CNN” and the “New York Times” in unison.

According to the report, a reporter asked Trump about Harris’ relationship with Brown and whether it had been beneficial to her career. Trump replied that he knew Brown “very well” and told a story about an alleged helicopter incident.

“We thought maybe this was the end. We were in a helicopter together on our way to a certain place and there was an emergency landing,” Trump said, according to CNN. “It was not a pleasant landing and Willie was a little worried. So I know him, I know him pretty well. I mean, I haven’t seen him in years.”

But there are several problems with the story. First, Trump is confusing Jerry Brown and Willie Brown. Jerry Brown is a former governor of California, white, and was on board the helicopter. Willie Brown was mayor of San Francisco, is black, and an ex-boyfriend of Harris. He was not on board the helicopter.

There was no emergency landing, and the helicopter’s passengers were never in danger, according to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who was also on the flight – writes the New York Times. He told the newspaper with a laugh: “I call that complete nonsense.”

Nobody knows anything about an emergency landing

Jerry Brown told the newspaper through a spokesman: “There was no emergency landing and no conversation about Harris.” And Willie Brown told CNN on the phone that the story was “obviously false”: “I have never been in a helicopter with him (Trump, ed.) in my life.”

According to the New York Times, the helicopter flight in question took place in 2018 when Trump, Jerry Brown and Governor Newson were inspecting damage from a forest fire in California.
