MIAMI. Dominican Republic successfully hosts its Trade Show tourism fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center with more than 500 travel agencies from all over America, hotels and tourist destinations on the Caribbean island.
With great natural landscapes, beaches and good hotel service, as well as good prices, a friendly citizenry and political stability, the Dominican Republic is the most visited country in the Caribbean Sea basin and the fourth in all of America, only after the United States, Mexico and Canada.
“Last year we brought 80 exhibitors from the Dominican Republic, including hotels and tourist destinations, and this year we have 105. That means that the Dominican company is highly represented at this fair to hold business meetings,” the Vice Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, Jacqueline Mora, told DIARIO LAS AMÉRICAS.
“We have it all, nature, beaches, good hotels, history, popular culture, gastronomy, and we will continue to grow,” highlighted the Dominican official.
Last year, 2025, the Caribbean country reported 11.6 million visitors and now expects to exceed 12 million.
“We managed to grow the figure 4% compared to 2024, but we could not grow more because the flow of visitors from the United States who are not Americans decreased due to the immigration issue, because, perhaps, if you are only a permanent resident you felt in limbo, but that is changing,” he said.
Meanwhile, the succession of investments continues latent with new hotels, tourist facilities and improvements to the country’s infrastructure.
“We continue to offer sun and beach because we are an island in the Caribbean, but we want to include the cultural model, so that visitors know the history, the colonial areas, the gastronomy. It will be a four or five year job, but we will achieve it,” he stressed.
When asked how investments and the rise of tourism help the Dominican population in their daily lives, the vice minister responded: “We started with the construction of new hotels and infrastructure. The construction sector is a very noble sector from the point of view of the human capital it employs. It does not need a NASA engineer to work in the construction sector, so first it provides jobs, and then, when everything is built, it needs employees and provides jobs and helps the local economy, not only the hotels but also the small businesses in the area because “The visitor leaves the hotel to consume and take excursions. In addition, local products, fruits, vegetables and many other things that come from the Dominican fields are consumed.”
And he added: “Let’s remember that Punta Cana was a mountain. There was not even a population, but when the tourism model was developed everything changed.”
Among the many exhibitors, Viva Miches by Wyndham stands out, which recently launched an all-inclusive resort in the Miches area, facing Samaná Bay.
“We are one hour twenty from Punta Cana. It is a completely new resort with a spectacular virgin beach,” commented Sales and Marketing Director Gilda Noboa.
“In other words, you feel like you have a beach to yourself. There is a lot of vegetation and it is located in a strategic place because it has Samaná in front of it, where there are many excursions, as well as an extraordinary place called Montaña Redonda, with spectacular views, and the town of Miches.”
To complete the offer of the Dominican Republic tourism fair and highlight the cultural model of the Caribbean country, the organizers offered dance classes and techniques for processing national products such as cocoa, casabe and that popular medicinal drink called mamajuana.
