Dolphins suffer beating by Bills and the loss of Tagovailoa

MIAMI GARDENS.- Buffalo fans screamed so loud at Hard Rock Stadium in the Miami Dolphins someone asked coach Sean McDermott if the Bills were playing at home.

They were visitors, but they certainly gave plenty of reason to celebrate to the fans who made the long trip to South Florida.

James Cook caught a touchdown pass and ran for two more scores as the Bills beat the Dolphins 31-10 on Thursday night. Tua Tagovailoa in the third quarter with another concussion.

Tagovailoa went down in the third quarter after colliding with defensive back Damar Hamlin. The quarterback’s neck was bent to the side and the back of his head hit the turf on the way down.

Tagovailoa was ruled out almost immediately with the concussion, raising questions about his season after numerous history of head injuries.

“It’s very sad. This is the worst part of this game,” Bills quarterback Josh Allen said. “We have nothing but love for him. We send prayers to him and his family, and hopefully everyone will do the same, because it’s going to be necessary.”

Coach Mike McDaniel did not specify whether the Dolphins will place Tagovailoa on the injured list. He said the team will evaluate Tagovailoa more closely on Friday.

The yoke remains

Allen, who played with a glove on his non-throwing hand after injuring it in the season opener, completed 13 of 19 passes for 139 yards. He is 12-2 against Miami.

The Bills are 14-2 against the Dolphins since McDermott took over in Buffalo in 2017.

McDermott praised the performance of his defense, which forced three turnovers and limited Miami’s potent offense to one touchdown and one field goal despite being without several starters.

“The next guy has to respond. The guys did a great job,” the coach said. “These guys work hard. Good things happen when you work hard. And sometimes the ball finds you like that.”
