Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani suffers shoulder injury in Game 2 of World Series

Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani suffered a left shoulder injury Saturday while trying to steal a base in Game 2 of the World Series against the New York Yankees.

“He had a little subluxation in his left shoulder,” Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts explained after the game. “We’re going to do some testing sometime tonight or tomorrow and we’ll know more in the next couple of days. But the strength was good, the range of motion was good, so we’re encouraged.”

Ohtani slid hard into second base on an attempted steal in the bottom of the seventh inning and remained on the ground before Los Angeles staff helped him off the field.

He was taken to the locker room for evaluation. The Dodgers won 4-2 and have a 2-0 series lead.

Roberts added that no decision has been made on whether Ohtani will play in Game 3, but he wouldn’t rule him out for the rest of the World Series.

“I hope he is in the lineup,” he said.

Ohtani is considered the best player in baseball. The NL MVP favorite hit .310 with 54 home runs, drove in 130 runs and stole 59 bases this year. He is the first player in MLB history to record 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season. In the first game of the World Series, in which the Dodgers achieved a dramatic victory thanks to a grand slam in extra innings, Ohtani hit a double and scored a run.
