PARIS.- The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic announced this Tuesday that he will not participate in the Paris Masters 1000which will be held from October 27 to November 2.
“Unfortunately I will not play in Paris this year,” the 38-year-old Serbian, a record seven-time winner of the Paris tournament, explained on Instagram.
The man with 24 Grand Slam titles added that he “hopes” to be at the indoor tournament in the French capital next year.
The Serbian will not step on the hard courts of La Défense Arena, where the Parisian tournament moves in 2025 after 40 years of presence in Bercy.
Already absent in Paris last year, Djokovic has been extremely selective this season in relation to the tournaments in which he participates.
After his elimination at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open semifinals at the beginning of September, he did not return to competition until a month later, at the Shanghai Masters 1000.
In the Chinese city, ‘Djoko’ was stopped in the semifinals against the Monegasque Valentin Vacherot, winner of the tournament.
Present last week at the Six Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia, he abandoned the third-place match.
Djokovic could make his return to the circuit at the ATP 250 tournament in Athens (November 2 to 8). Currently fifth in the ATP rankings, the Serbian is qualified for the Turin Masters (November 9-16), but has not yet confirmed his presence.
Etcheverry and Cerúndolo advance in Vienna
Mixed luck for the Argentine tennis players this Tuesday at the ATP 500 in Vienna. Francisco Cerúndolo and Tomás Etcheverry surpassed their entry into the fray in the Austrian capital, while Ugo Carabelli said goodbye at the first opportunity.
Cerúndolo (No. 21 in the ATP ranking) easily got rid of the American veteran Alex Michelsen (34th), whom he defeated 6-3, 6-1.
Etcheverry (60th) also beat the Norwegian Nicolai Budkov Kjær (137th) in two sets; 6-3, 6-3.
It was the fifth victory in seven indoor matches this season for Etcheverry, who was awaiting an opponent in the second round of the duel between Lorenzo Musetti (8th) and Hamad Medjedovic (67th).
Cerúndolo will have a complicated duel against the Kazakh Alexander Bublik (16th).
Ugo Carabelli (50th) was surpassed by local Filip Misolic (95th).
The Vienna tournament, on a hard surface, has the Italian Jannik Sinner, world No. 2, as the main favorite.
