Djokovic drops out of the Madrid Masters 1000 and the reason is already known

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic confirmed this Friday that he will not participate in the Mutua Madrid Open due to an injury to his right shoulder that prevents him from competing.

The winner of 24 Grand Slam titles announced his decision through social networks: “Madrid, unfortunately I will not be able to participate this year. I continue with my recovery with the aim of returning soon,” said the current world number four.

The Madrid tournament also confirmed his absence, remembering that Djokovic is a three-time champion of the tournament held at the Caja Mágica, and wished him a speedy recovery.

Djokovic aims for Rome before Roland Garros

The 38-year-old Serbian has not competed since his elimination in the Indian Wells Masters 1000 approximately a month ago. Later, he also dropped out of the Miami and Monte Carlo tournaments.

His goal is to return at the Rome Masters 1000, scheduled for May, in preparation for Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season.

Doubts about the presence of Alcaraz

Added to Djokovic’s loss is the uncertainty over the participation of Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, world number two, who recently withdrew from the Conde de Godó Trophy due to a right wrist injury.

Alcaraz suffered discomfort during his debut against the Finnish Otto Virtanen, a match he managed to win, but subsequent tests confirmed that the injury is more serious than expected.

The Murcian has not yet confirmed whether he will be ready to compete in the Madrid Masters 1000, which generates uncertainty in one of the most important clay court tournaments on the tour.
