After repeated threats of the new US President Donald Trump with the annexation of the autonomous Danish territory of Greenland, the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen travels to Berlin, Paris and Brussels on Tuesday. In Berlin, Fredriksen will be received by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) in the morning (8.15 a.m.). “Europe is in a serious situation” in view of the war in Ukraine and the “changes in geopolitical reality”, the Danish Prime Minister explained before her departure, without naming Trump’s Greenland plans.
On Saturday, Trump reaffirmed his annexation plans for Greenland. In the past few weeks, he had stated several times that he wanted to take over the autonomous area – and not excluded military steps. According to Trump, the United States needs the area for its “national security”.
