COVID-19 surge in US: Joe Biden orders return of free testing

Laredo, Texas.- Given the surge in Covid-19 cases in the United States, the administration of the President Joe Biden ordered to restore the free testing for the diseasewhich can be done at home for further prevention of the spread.

It is estimated that by the end of September all households will be able to request up to four rapid tests through COVIDtest.gov.

The tests that will be sent by mail will detect the new variants of covid-19 which are currently causing the surge in cases.

In fact, that is the reason for the return of the use of tests, after the Food and Drug Administration -FDA- approved this week two new versions of vaccines against the virus that provide protection against the most recent strains.

These Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are expected to be distributed so that in the coming days they will be available to be administered to people from 6 months of age.

According to the Department of Health and Human Servicesvaccination, together with testing, are one of the most effective ways to limit the spread of the disease. And although the current strains have not had a high incidence of mortality, they are identified as being highly contagious, which makes them dangerous for vulnerable people or those with lung conditions, diabetes either high blood pressure.

When using these rapid antigen tests, a positive result means that you are very likely to have COVID-19, so the actions taken afterward will have a major impact on the spread.

If the test result is negative and you have symptoms, the FDA recommends that you take a second test 48 hours after the first. Three tests are suggested for people who have been exposed, particularly if they are asymptomatic, also 48 hours apart.

Tests had previously been given out to each family or person who needed them, so if you still have them at home, they may still work. However, you can check the FDA website to see if the expiration date has been extended.
