MIAMI. – An alleged South Florida contractor was arrested after being accused of charging more than $200,000 for a work that he never carried out in a Catholic school in Miami-Dade, according to authorities.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO)the detainee was identified as Nestor Olivares, 50 years old, who faces charges of grand theft, falsification of documents and practicing a profession without a license.
The investigation indicates that St. Kevin Catholic School agreed with the defendant to install 13 aluminum roof structures. However, the project did not move forward and, according to the file, never materialized.
The arrest report details that Olivares did not deliver the materials or carry out the agreed work, despite having received payments exceeding $200,000. The authorities emphasize that there is no evidence that the work has been started at any time.
The case adds a key element: the defendant did not have a valid license as a contractor in either the state of Florida or Miami-Dade County at the time of taking on the project.
According to the detectives in charge of the file, in February of this year Olivares assured that he would return the money to the institution. Instead of completing the refund, he presented alleged bank receipts that, after being verified, turned out to be false.
The investigations place the origin of the agreement in September 2024, when the accused, linked to a company identified as Creed Metalwas hired to carry out the work.
During his court appearance, a judge set bail at $30,150 and established as a condition that he must prove the lawful origin of the funds before he can be released on bail.
So far, it was not immediately clear whether he had been released, while the case moves through the county court system.
