The iconic fighter of MMA, Conor McGregorhe has given indications that his future could be more linked to politics than to the octagons of the UFC.
In a recent press conference after the BKFC 70 event in Hollywood, Florida, “The Notorious” revealed that he is obsessed with the political situation of his native country, Ireland.
McGregor and his new passion for politics
Last week, McGregor visited the White House and expressed concern about the problems facing Ireland. Subsequently, he announced in X (formerly Twitter) that he plans to run for president in his country, a statement that has generated great stir in public opinion and in the world of combat sports.
His return to UFC is still in doubt
McGregor, 36, has not competed in UFC since his defeat in July 2021 against Dustin Poirier, where he suffered a fracture in the leg. Although he was scheduled to face Michael Chandler in UFC 303 last June, a foot injury forced him to withdraw from the event.
The fighter has confirmed that he still has two pending fights in his contract with UFC, but his current approach seems to be away from the competition. McGregor also revealed that he recently received an offer to fight in an event in Alcatraz, but decided to reject her when she was not worth it.

The future of McGregor: Politics or triumphal return to the octagon?
Despite his foray into politics, McGregor left open the possibility of a return to the octagon. “My return will be the best and most anticipated of all time. But it has to be in the right conditions,” he said.
For now, McGregor’s attention is focused on Irish politics. However, his fans still hope to see him again at the UFC and witness one of the most spectacular returns in the history of the MMA.
