Congressman Salazar affirms that Trump would sign a law to legalize certain immigrants

Republican federal congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, who is seeking re-election and has criticized some forms of deportations in the United States, stated this Thursday that President Donald J. Trump will sign a law to regularize certain undocumented immigrants.

The Miami legislator, of Cuban origin, who faces one of the most competitive races in the midterm elections on November 3, assured that Trump will support the Dignity Law that she drives to regularize immigrants without criminal records from key economic sectors(although without offering citizenship).

“The President understands it, but I know that this is being talked about and that in the next 2 years, before the President leaves the White House, there will be some type of immigration reform that solves a 40-year-old problem. If anyone can do it, it is Trump, you know him,” said the federal legislator after an event in Miami.

The federal representative of Florida’s 27th District drew national attention after a campaign ad in September in which she told the president that his “immigration policy has gone too far” and that “the same Hispanics who brought him to the White House in 2024 today feel betrayed.”

“The president is an intelligent man”

The congresswoman’s statements fueled the controversy over the thorny issue of mass immigration among Hispanic sectors and especially among Cubans, divided after the disaster of the Democrats who promoted and allowed an invasion of illegal immigrants and the President’s heavy hand against the massive and disorderly entry of people with the aim of settling in the country, security on the southern border and the importance of defending national security.

Trump responded with great respect to Salazar and assured that he would maintain his position “firm”, but then she had a dialogue with him in which the head of the White House was very “receptive”, indicated the congresswoman of Cuban origin.

“The President is an intelligent man and knows that the US economy, for 20% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), depends on five industries with that workforce, and that many of them are in immigration limbo,” the legislator pointed out.

Salazar’s rival, Democrat Elliott Rodríguez, also of Cuban origin and also a former television presenter, has accused her of being “complicit” in the Republican leader’s policies.

It should not be different when talking about the same Party, this is what happens when Democratic congressmen vote as a uniform bloc despite how controversial and harmful measures and projects may be for the left.

The proposed Dignity Law

At a Miami’s Community News event at Casa Cuba, she defended her Dignity Law proposal, a bipartisan project to legalize immigrants without criminal records that work in construction, agriculture, health, hospitality and food.

“There is legislation, which is the Dignity Law, which I am presenting, which is Solomonic, it does not give them citizenship, but at the same time it allows them to stay with a ‘Dignity’ visa,” he said.

The controversy intensified on October 1, when the border czar, Tom Homan, asserted in South Florida that deportations will increase in 2027, after a record of 200,000 immigration arrests in the last four months.

Salazar, who represents one of the districts with the most voters of Cuban origin, also promised that Trump will make a change on the island, although he did not offer details.

“The promise of change is that also, before President Trump leaves the White House, the Castros will not be in Cuba,” he said.
