LOS ANGELES.- The Coliseum Memorial of Los Angeles and the Sofi Stadium will share the opening ceremony of the Olympics Summer of 2028, in a celebration that will be held for the first time in two venues, organizers reported Thursday.
LA28, as the Fair Angelinas are known, revealed the plans of the opening ceremony for July 14, 2028, in which it will mix history and innovation.
The story, because the emblematic coliseum will be the first headquarters to house events of three Olympic, and innovation, due to the developments of the Sofi, home of the Rams and the Chargers of the American Football League, which will debut in a games.
The organizers will not refer to the Sofi enclosure, located in Inglewood, near Los Angeles, by their sponsored name, they will simply do so as “the Inglewood stadium.”
The closing ceremony will be held on July 30, 2028 at the Coliseum.
The opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games will take place at the Sofi Stadium on August 15, 2028 and the Clausura, on August 27, 2028, in the Colosseum.
“The selected headquarters for the Opening and Closing ceremonies of 2028 will highlight the rich sports history of Los Angeles and its avant -garde future, showing the best that has to offer it on the world stage,” said the president of La28, Casey Wasserman.
They point to the top
“These two extraordinary venues will create an unforgettable experience, welcoming fans from all over the world to Olympic and Paralympic Games as never before have they seen each other and concluding that they will go down in history as one of the most incredible games of all.”
Inaugurated in 1923, the Colosseum has previously welcomed the 1932 and 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
“Today’s announcement marks a proud milestone, since the Los Angeles Coliseum memorial will become the first enclosure in history to house three Olympic Games,” said the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass.
“For more than a century, the coliseum has been an emblematic place that has housed some of the most iconic moments in the history of sport. That story continues in 2028,” he added.
Athletics will be played in the coliseum and swimming at the Sofi stadium.
