Coats and hot drinks: the cold returns to Miami this week

MIAMI.- Miami and South Florida face a week marked by cold weather, a trend that has continued since the beginning of the year.

This Monday the 13th began with a sunny sunrise and an average temperature of 60°F, but the thermometer is expected to drop significantly in the coming days.

On Tuesday the 14th, the weather will become cloudy with the arrival of a new cold front at night, according to weather models.

For Wednesday the 15th, residents will wake up to a partly cloudy dawn and minimum temperatures between 59°F and 73°F, especially in the interior areas of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, according to experts.

Historically low temperatures

This is not the first cold episode of the year. At the beginning of January, two cold fronts impacted the region. The first, between January 3 and 4, brought lows close to 50°F in Miami and coastal areas.

However, it was the second front, which occurred on January 8, that recorded the lowest temperatures in almost two years, reaching lows in the 40s in some areas.

What to expect towards the end of the week

As the days progress, a slight rise in temperatures is expected, which could reach maximums of between 57°F and 71°F towards Friday the 17th. Despite this, cold air could remain present until the end of the week .

The residents, not very accustomed to this type of climate, must take precautions. Dress warmly, especially in the mornings and evenings. Pay special attention to children, older adults and pets, and be careful when using heaters indoors to avoid accidents.

A refreshing change

While many take this opportunity to dust off their coats and enjoy hot beverages, others look forward to the return of Miami’s signature warm weather.

This cold front, however, provides a refreshing break in South Florida’s weather routine and reminds us that even in this tropical corner, winter can leave its mark.
