Circles: Trump government releases researchers in the middle of warnings about bird flu pandemic

In the middle of increasing warnings of a possible bird flu pandemic, almost half of the employees of a renowned research program have been released in the health authority CDC in the United States. He was “so angry,” said a senior CDC epidemiologist, who looked after some of those affected by the layoffs, on Friday of the AFP news agency. “We are about to another pandemic, and we fire the people who probably have more specialist knowledge than everyone else in the country,” he said with reference to the research program of epidemic intelligence service (ice cream).

First, the broadcaster CBS News reported on the staff cuts. They are therefore part of the drastic reduction plans of the US government for employees during the trial period. According to CBS News, almost 1300 employees have so far been released from the CDC – this corresponds to about ten percent of the workforce.

The ice, founded in 1951 and was located within the CDC, is a two -year training program after the doctorate. His employees are at the forefront when it comes to the outbreak of epidemics. Among other things, they were involved in the investigation of the first Ebola cases in Africa in the 1970s. In addition, they participated significantly in the first reports on Corona cases in the USA.

A total of around 140 researchers are employed by the prestigious program, which are generally known as “visual detectives”. “Without these officials, we couldn’t have removed the smallpox,” said the CDC representative, who wanted to remain anonymous. “We combed people, the countries, waded through mud and drove over rivers in boats to eradicate the smallpics.”

According to the researcher Amesh Adalja from Johns Hopkins University, “every attempt to end this program will have an impact on the national and health security of the United States”.

The government of US President Donald Trump had started mass ceremonies of employees during the trial period in the course of its drastic cut plans for the federal authorities. According to media reports, the government instructed the authorities to relieve most of the employees during the trial period.

The new health minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had announced the country’s health facilities shortly after his swearing -in on Thursday. He started at a time when scientists warn of increasing bird flu to humans and a possibly resulting pandemic.

In the past, the 71-year-old had distributed distortions about alleged vaccination risks. He makes no secret of his contempt for research in the field of infectious diseases.
