The London club Chelsea F.C.was sanctioned by the Premier League with a fine of 10.75 million pounds and a ban on his academy after undeclared payments were discovered between 2011 and 2018.
He Chelsea has been sanctioned by the Premier League with a fine of 10.75 million pounds and an immediate nine-month veto to sign players in its academy, in addition to receiving a one-year transfer ban that is suspended, as a result of financial irregularities committed in the past.
The sanctions are related to an investigation into undeclared payments made between 2011 and 2018, during the period in which the club was owned by the Russian businessman. Roman Abramovich.
The Premier League investigation
The English league determined that third parties linked to the club made undisclosed payments to players, unregistered agents and other persons related to transfers and club operations.
These irregularities came to light after the new ownership group led by American businessman Todd Boehly, who acquired Chelsea in 2022, shared information with English football authorities about possible historical breaches.
However, the Premier League said that although the payments were not reported correctly, even if they had been included in financial reports at the time the club would not have breached profitability and sustainability (PSR) rules.
Chelsea cooperation reduced the punishment
One of the key factors in determining the sanctions was the club’s collaboration during the investigation.
According to the Premier League, Chelsea made voluntary self-reports, admitted violations and provided thousands of documents to facilitate the process.
For this reason, the league considered the club’s “exceptional cooperation” as a mitigating element when deciding the punishment.
Other investigation in progress
In addition to the case with the Premier League, the club also faces 74 alleged breaches of FA rules related to the same information revealed by the new owners.
In an official statement, Chelsea assured that from the beginning of the process it fully collaborated with the regulatory bodies and voluntarily notified any possible irregularities detected during the investigation.
