Checo Pérez extends his contract with Cadillac until 2029

The Mexican driver will continue three more seasons with the American team, with which he seeks to contribute to the development of a project that is taking its first steps in Formula 1.

Sergio “Checo” Pérez will continue in Formula 1 until 2029 after extending his contract with Cadillac, as announced this Wednesday by the 36-year-old Mexican driver in the run-up to the Mexican Grand Prix.

“After everything this sport has given me, I found a new purpose: to help build something from the beginning,” Pérez said in a video released on the occasion of the announcement. “There is a lot of work ahead and I am fully committed to the next three years.”

Formula 1 also confirmed the continuity of the Mexican through its social networks, in news that guarantees the permanence of one of the most experienced drivers on the grid within the American project.

Pérez had signed an initial two-season contract with Cadillac in August 2025, after leaving Red Bull and taking a sabbatical year. His incorporation represented a commitment to the Mexican’s experience to accompany the development of a team that faces its first campaign in the highest category of motorsports.

The announcement coincides with a special week for Checo, who this Wednesday will hold an exhibition with his Cadillac car on the Paseo de la Reforma, in Mexico City, in front of hundreds of fans.

Furthermore, next weekend he will compete at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for his 300th Grand Prix in Formula 1, a figure that reflects the career of a driver who debuted in 2011 with Sauber and subsequently went through McLaren, Force India, Racing Point and Red Bull, before joining Cadillac.

A sporting challenge ahead

The renewal comes at a difficult time for the new team. Cadillac has not scored points in the first 18 races of the season and is in last place in the constructors’ championship.

Pérez has also not managed to score points in that stretch of the calendar, so the team faces the challenge of improving its performance and building a competitive structure for the coming seasons.

With the agreement until 2029, the Mexican will have continuity to participate in this growth process and contribute the knowledge accumulated for more than a decade in the premier category of motorsport.
