PARIS.- The number 3 in the world, Carlos Alcarazwill play the tournament Vienna for the first time since 2021, the organizers of this announced this Thursday ATP 500which will be held from October 26 to November 1.
“When it became clear on Wednesday that the Six Kings Slam“, a lucrative exhibition in Saudi Arabia in which the Spaniard was to participate from October 21 to 24, “would be postponed until the end of December, the tournament director, Herwig Strakacontacted Carlos Alcaraz’s entourage,” the organizers said in a press release.
“From there everything accelerated and Carlos agreed to come to Vienna without thinking about it,” they said.
The organizers of the Six Kings Slam announced on Wednesday that the event would finally be held from December 27 to 30, following the deadly Houthi attacks in Yemen against Saudi Arabia.
Winner of seven Grand Slams and one of the best players on the planet for some years, Alcaraz had initially planned not to play any tournament between the Saudi exhibition and the Paris Masters 1000 (November 2-8).
But the Murcian, eliminated on Monday in the third round of the Shanghai Masters 1000has played little this season due to a right wrist injury that kept him away from the circuit between mid-April and the end of August.
In search of consistency
His participation in the Vienna tournament could help him regain his competitive rhythm, after having been irregular in his results and in his level of play since his return to the circuit (quarterfinals in the US Openwinner in Tokyo and third round in Shanghai).
The former world number 1 had reached the semifinals in his only participation in the Austrian tournament, which is played on an indoor hard court.
In addition to Alcaraz, the 2026 edition will bring together five other members of the top 10: the future number 1 in the world Alexander Zverev (currently 2nd), Russian Daniil Medvedev (6th), the Italian Flavio Cobolli (7th), the Australian Alex de Minaur (9th) and the American Frances Tiafoe (10th).
